Custom stainless steel shafts.
Coordinate drawing-based shaft machining around material, stepped diameters, threads, grooves and the interfaces that matter.
A shaft is defined by its interfaces.
Custom stainless steel shafts can combine steps, threads, grooves, flats and cross holes. The manufacturing review should identify which features locate bearings, transmit load or control assembly, and how those features will be inspected.
Send a dimensioned drawing alongside the 3D model. Diameter tolerances, runout, straightness, thread details and surface requirements should be explicit where they affect function.
Common features to include.
- Stepped diameters and shoulders
- Internal or external threads with the required specification
- Retaining-ring or seal grooves
- Flats, key features and cross holes
- Bearing seats and surfaces requiring additional finishing
Material condition and finishing.
State the exact stainless steel grade and any required condition. Strength, corrosion environment, heat treatment and surface finish can influence both the manufacturing route and inspection requirements.
Turning may need to be combined with milling, grinding or other finishing. These capabilities and the practical size range are confirmed after reviewing your specific shaft rather than promised as a universal limit.
Agree what will be measured.
Identify the datum structure and the critical interfaces on the drawing. If you need a dimensional report, material documentation or a defined sampling plan, include that requirement in the RFQ.
The quotation should clarify the part revision, manufacturing scope, finishing condition and acceptance requirements. For repeated batches, keep these requirements consistent or identify the changes before reordering.
| Project detail | What to include |
|---|---|
| Material | Grade and required heat-treatment or supply condition |
| Geometry | Length, stepped diameters, bores, threads and special features |
| Critical features | Fits, runout, straightness and surface finish as applicable |
| Inspection | Required measurements and documentation |
| Quantity | Sample, batch and repeat-order demand |
Before the quotation.
Can you quote a shaft with both turned and milled features?
Submit the full geometry, including flats, slots and cross holes. The review will identify the combination of operations needed for the part.
Can you hold my bearing fit?
The drawing, material, part length and required finishing route must be reviewed before a tolerance is committed. Flag the bearing seat and the acceptance method in the RFQ.
Do you supply standard shafting from stock?
This service focuses on custom components made to agreed requirements. If you need an off-the-shelf item, provide the standard or manufacturer reference so the request can be assessed appropriately.
