Custom CNC aluminum enclosures.
Review aluminum housings, pockets, mounting features and connector openings as one drawing-led machining project.
An enclosure shaped around the assembly.
A custom CNC-machined aluminum enclosure can bring mounting bosses, internal pockets, connector openings and mating faces into a drawing-controlled component. Start by defining the assembly envelope and the interfaces that must fit.
Clarify whether you need an enclosure machined from solid material, machining of an extrusion, or modification of an existing shell. These are different manufacturing routes and should not be treated as one interchangeable quote.
The details that matter on the drawing.
- Board outline, mounting holes, standoff positions and thread requirements
- Connector, display and cable openings with their fit requirements
- Base-to-lid datums, fastener pattern and assembly clearances
- Gasket grooves and sealing surfaces, if required
- Appearance faces, masking requirements and surface treatment
Specify material and finish together.
If you require 6061-T6 or another aluminum grade, state it on the drawing. For anodized or coated parts, identify the appearance faces and say which dimensions apply after finishing.
Grounding contacts, threaded features and tight mating interfaces may need masking or a defined allowance. Color consistency and cosmetic acceptance should be agreed with physical references where appearance is important.
Evaluate the enclosure as part of the product.
A machined groove does not by itself establish a waterproof rating. If sealing, thermal behavior, electrical grounding or regulatory performance matters, describe the required verification and who will perform it.
For a prototype or smaller batch, submit the enclosure and mating parts together where possible. Material, geometry, quantity and finish will determine the suitable machining and inspection approach.
| Project detail | What to include |
|---|---|
| Useful files | STEP model of base and lid, PDF drawings, assembly reference |
| Geometry | Overall envelope, wall requirements, openings and mounting details |
| Finish | Material grade, appearance standard, masking and marking |
| Validation | Critical fits, sealing or thermal test requirements |
| Order | Sample quantity, batch quantity and required date |
Before the quotation.
Can I order a base and a matching lid?
Yes, submit the complete assembly and the drawings for both parts. Identify the mating datums and clearances so the review covers the assembled enclosure.
Do you also quote extrusion modifications?
State clearly that the starting part is an extrusion or existing shell. Supply the profile drawing or supplier reference so availability and machining access can be evaluated.
Can the quotation include anodizing?
Include the required type, color, cosmetic standard and masking instructions. The availability, lead time and inspection requirements are confirmed for the specific project.
